The Council Venturing Committee met last Thursday during the Council Coordinated meeting and finalized a general outline for LFC Venturing in the Council. As many of you are aware, the Venturing District was dissolved in September due to budgetary constraints and various Venturing committees have been meeting since then to restructure the Venturing effort. The good news is that many of the programs of the Venturing District remain, only they are now expanded to encompass the entire Last Frontier Council. Some aspects do return to the various Districts within the Council. For example, Districts will now handle all Venturing advancement and Venturing Adult recognition. Second, all Venturing efforts at popcorn and Friends of Scouting are returned to the districts as does re-charter and Commissioner unit service. Third, Districts must develop a program to support Venturing, including a Venturing breakout at their Roundtable. The Council Venturing Committee is in the process of pulling together a presentation for each District to explain the needs and challenges for Venturing in LFC.
The Council Venturing Committee will take the lead on Venturing adult and youth training. Craig Johnston, Bob Hyman, and Sandra Dronberger are the contacts on these efforts.
Venturing FORUM will shift from a once monthly meeting to 4-6 times a year. Most FORUMS will take place as a week-end or Saturday event. Barry Moore will lead with Slater Rhea assisting. The FORUMS will follow a format much like that found in PowderHorn, with Consultants leading training and active participant activity. Barry is looking at the first Forum in January which may explore fly-fishing or kayaking.
Finally, the Council Venturing Committee will meet 4 times yearly in the month month prior to the Council Coordinated meeting. There is a lot of room for Venturing Advisors to be a part of the sub-committee’s that are a part of this new Venturing effort.
There is also a new importance for Venturer participation. A New set of officers for the Venturing Officers Association was elected last week and each Venturing Crew in the Council should be represented when the VOA meets at each Council Coordinated meeting.
The new VOA officers are:
VOA advisor – Sandra Dronberger
President and youth delegate to the Council Executive Committee – Eric Swenson 2850
VP Admin – Quinten Zoch 2047
VP Program – Danyl Myers 237
Secretary – Emily Rodricks 344

Sounds like an interesting meeting! Wish I could have been there.
Districts in charge of Venturing Advancement??
I need to get a new leaders guide… Mine shows the Venturing youth and Adults sign off on Venturing Awards. The only “advancement” would be a young male working toward Eagle rank… now i’m really confused lol.

Yeah, you are correct. I was thinking Eagle Boards as well as the District Recognition events coming up in the next few months. We won’t have the “cookies and milk” recognition event anymore for the Venturing District. The other districts will have to remember to recognize their youth who have earned Ranger, Silver and Gold as well as recognize the Venturing adults leaders who have contributed to the program.
