Learn Skills That Could Save a Life
Ideal for scouts, outdoor enthusiasts or employees in remote environments an hour or more from EMS response, the 16-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid course gives you the skills and confidence you need to respond to an emergency when help may be delayed.
This training is required for future High Adventure base experiences like Philmont and highly recommended for at least one adult in every Scout Troop and Venturing Crew. It is based on the BSA Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines.
Course Highlights
To prepare participants to give care for potentially life-threatening emergencies in a delayed-help situation, the Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course covers the following:
- Primary and Secondary Assessments
- Wounds and Wound Infection
- Head (Brain)
- Neck and Spinal Injuries
- Hypothermia
- Bone and Joint Injuries
- Heat-Related Illnesses
- Allergies and Anaphylaxis
- Altitude-Related Illnesses
- Burns

Minimum Age: 14 years of age and current with CPR/AED.
Bring to Class: Comfortable clothes for outdoors that may get dirty – as you will be doing scenarios outdoors, raingear, lunch and water bottle, Backpack or duffel with gear you would use on a wilderness activity such as backpacking, climbing, kayaking or canoeing.
